NEER Discretionary Fund 2008

NEER is pleased to announce the continuation of the Discretionary Fund in 2008 and is now seeking to assist Network Participants in developing collaborative research projects and related events. As with the 2007 round, discretionary funding from NEER will give preference to requests for seed-funding to assist in the preparation of collaborative grant proposals.

Under the 2008 NEER Discretionary Fund, a limited number of small grants of up to $2,000 will be available on a competitive basis to support proposals relevant to the aims of NEER. Preference will be given to specific types of applications, in the following order:

1. Funding to support the preparation of collaborative applications for external grants;
2. Top-up funding for research clusters which need further assistance in preparing collaborative grant applications;
3. Support for events or institutions which have not previously received NEER funding;
4. Postgraduate/ECR assistance to attend NEER-sponsored events. In providing assistance to postgraduates and ECRs, distance and the relevance of the event to the applicant’s training or research topic will be taken into account. Postgraduates/ECRs who have already received $1000 or more in NEER grants will not be eligible for further funding.

Guidelines for applications

Applicants should explain, in around 450 words:

·        The nature and aims of the proposal

·        The relevance of the proposal to NEER’s aims

·        The possibility of collaborative research emerging from the proposal

·        The likelihood of a grant application or publication being an outcome

·        Any other expected outcomes

If previous NEER funding has been received by any of the applicants, a brief statement of outcomes should be added.

The deadline for the receipt of applications is 11 April 2008.

Applications should be addressed to:

Dr Claire McIlroy, ARC Network for Early European Research, School of Humanities (M208), University of Western Australia, 35 Stirling Highway, Crawley WA 6009
