Cathedral, Court, City and Cloister: Western Music and its Sources 1100-1750

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This Cluster aims to raise the profile of Australian scholarship into early European music through conference presentations, symposia, publication and training. In particular, it will address ways in which documentary materials (musical and liturgical manuscripts, archival documents, letters, church/state/city documents and so on) can lead to new interpretations and understandings of musical cultures and practices.

Meetings:

April 2007: Inaugural meeting of the cluster: Sydney
November 2007: second meeting Brisbane

Conferences and symposia:

November 2007: The Cluster mounted two full sessions at the joint meeting of the MSA and the NZ Musicological Society, Brisbane.

July 2008: Symposium "Cathedral, Court, City and Cloister: Spanish Liturgical Music Manuscripts at the University of Sydney and their International Contexts" (University of Sydney).
