BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This cluster will strengthen collaborative research in the field of manuscript studies by helping to bring together a group of scholars with related interests who have already made a valuable and sustained contribution to Australian-based research in this area, and who are interested in working with younger colleagues.

EVENTS (INCLUDING MEETINGS AND WORKSHOPS)

Meetings:

September 2006: inaugural meeting of Australian members, at the recently established Manuscript Resource Unit at Newman College, Melbourne.

February 2007: A meeting of the full cluster including international members, Newman College, Melbourne.

Conferences and symposia:
February 2007: Symposium on Manuscript Studies at Newman College, Melbourne.

July 2007: Margaret Manion presented a panel at the Inaugural NEER International Conference, University of Western Australia.

May 2008: Symposium: "Imagination, Books and Community in Medieval Europe", organised in conjunction with NEER Theme "Religion and Spirituality"; State Library of Victoria.

Seminars:
Margaret Manion: ten seminars on manuscripts related to the Medieval Imagination exhibition, Manuscript Resource Unit at Newman College, Melbourne, 2008.

PUBLICATIONS

The Medieval Imagination: Illuminated Manuscripts from Cambridge, Australia and New Zealand, Bronwyn Stocks and Nigel Morgan eds. (South Yarra, Vic.: Macmillan Art Pub., 2008).

The Facsimile and the Manuscript (exhibition catalogue, 2007): An exhibition in the Leigh Scott Gallery, First Floor, Baillieu Library by Special Collections, curated by Bronwyn Stocks of Monash University.

GRANTS APPLIED FOR

The Cluster has applied for an ARC Linkage grant (September 2008) with the State Library of Victoria and the University of Western Australia.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

February 2007: Exhibition of manuscript facsimiles at the Baillieu Library, University of Melbourne, in conjunction with symposium above, Bronwyn Stocks curator.

Exhibition organised by the State Library of Victoria assisted by the Manuscript Cluster: "The Medieval Imagination : Illuminated Manuscripts from Cambridge, Australia and New Zealand", March-June 2008.
