BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This Research Cluster brings together a blend of experienced scholars and early career researchers, all of them concerned in interestingly different ways with letters not only as a literary genre and historical texts but as important evidence for themes touching many contemporary scholarly preoccupations in the period 1150-1850, above all for Britain, France and Italy.

EVENTS (INCLUDING MEETINGS AND WORKSHOPS)

June 2007: Workshop/symposium held at Monash University.

The Cluster now hosts a regular workshop on this theme. Colleagues from Monash and Melbourne University meet about once a month at Monash and we will all present papers on various aspects of European epistolary culture in the next few months.

2010: Proposed conference on the Cluster theme.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

It was proposed that a working bibliography of this huge subject be compiled for the benefit of the Cluster. Ms Lisa Curtis-Wendlandt, an experienced Research Assistant with excellent language skills and herself a researcher in the field, undertook to do this work. The bibliography was completed and distributed to all participants including our WA colleagues.
