Subsidies for Postgraduates

NEER has a particular interest in enabling postgraduates and early career researchers to participate in Network events (events directly sponsored by NEER). But we realize that it is often difficult to get funding from your own institution.

As a result, NEER has a policy of offering subsidies to cover the cost of travel and accommodation for Network events (see below).

You must be a registered Network Participant to apply for a subsidy to attend a Network event.

NEER events, and calls for applications for subsidies, are advertised through the NEER e-mail list.

Applications for NEER Financial Assistance

Postgraduates and ECRs may apply to NEER for financial assistance of up to $500 towards the cost of essential air travel and accommodation. Applications should include the following:

(i) details of the degree in which you are enrolled (PGs) or the title of your current research project (ECRs).
(ii) a short (c. 300 words) statement outlining how the event will benefit your research.
(iii) an estimate/quote of anticipated expenses, and notice of any financial support that may be provided by your home institution (or other source).

NEERs policy is to award financial assistance on the basis of:

a. The demonstrated necessity of the funding.
b. The applicant's distance from the proposed activity.

Preference will be given to applicants who have not yet received funding from NEER. From 2007, Postgraduates and ECRs who have already received $1000 or more in NEER grants will not be eligible for further funding. You must be a registered Network Participant to apply for a subsidy to attend a Network event.
