Voyager Postgraduate Research Award

NEER is pleased to announce that UWA History PhD candidate Mr Joseph Christensen has been awarded the inaugural Voyager Postgraduate Research Award generously provided by one of NEER’s industry partners Woodside Valley Foundation, in conjunction with Voyager Estate. The scholarship is valued at $7,500 and will assist Joseph in the completion of his thesis entitled “Shark Bay 1616-1991: A History of the Field Sciences and the Emergence of Ecology”. Congratulations to Joseph and his supervisor A/Prof Charlie Fox.

The Mission of Woodside Valley Foundation is to secure for future generations the spirit, lives and vision of the great maritime explorers and scientists whose achievements are the heritage on which life in Western Australia is founded. Mr Peter Woods, whose interest in Western Australia’s early maritime history had developed through his friendship with the late Professor Leslie Marchant (AM), founded the Woodside Valley Foundation. The late Professor Marchant's contribution to the understanding of this history, particularly the work of the great French explorers and scientists of the late 17th Century, led to his election to Chevalier, Ordre National du Mérite Membership of the French Academie des Science d'Outre-mer and to Fellowship of the Royal Geographic Society.

The Voyager Postgraduate Award was advertised in The West Australian and The Australian newspapers in 2006. Click here to view the original advertisement.
